Professional Profile:

Brett Lieberman focuses his practice on the representation of corporate debtors, creditors, receivers, assignees, and trustees in all aspects of commercial bankruptcy and other distressed business situations.  He employs a results-oriented approach and collaborates with his clients to best understand their goals and values.

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Accounting from the University of Florida Fisher School of Accounting in 2006, Mr. Lieberman continued his education and earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2009. 

While in law school, Mr. Lieberman served as Editor-in-Chief for the Entertainment Law Review, was a member of the Journal of Technology Law and Policy, participated in V.I.T.A., the volunteer income tax assistant program.  Mr. Lieberman also earned his pro bono certificate in 2008 as a judicial clerk for Honorable Judge Robert P. Cates of the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida. 

Immediately upon graduation, Mr. Lieberman joined Thomas Messana and began focusing his practice on the representation of debtors, creditors and professional fiduciaries in all aspects of insolvency driven disputes.  Mr. Lieberman has successfully navigated corporate debtors through reorganizations including plan confirmation and stipulated dismissal, and regularly represents court-appointed receivers and assignees in a variety of contexts.    

Mr. Lieberman presently serves as a director of the Bankruptcy Bar Association of the Southern District of Florida and is a member of the Receivership and Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors subcommittees of the Florida Bar’s Business Law Section.
